What are the girls doing? A karting challenge?

The FIA, together with nine partners, is implementing in 2018 and 2019 a competition model for the promotion and development of young women in motor sport at the grassroots level.

The FIA European Young Women Program will contribute to advancing the educational and social roles of the FIA, and will support its national sports authorities with their growth in motor sport as they strive to raise awareness about gender equality and increase the participation of women in sports.

The project of the European Program for Young Women of the FIA has the support of the European Union through the Erasmus + program. The European Union supports projects related to sport since 2014 in various areas, including social aspects and gender equality.

The «Karting Girls On Track Challenge»

The European Program for Young Women of the FIA was launched on March 7, 2018 during the Geneva Motor Show. During the first year, kart slalom events will be promoted among young women between 13 and 18 years old nationwide in eight European partner countries of ASN. This two-year project is based on a cost-effective and risky kart slalom format: The Girls on Track - Karting Challenge, a new concept currently developed by the FIA that will establish a small area of asphalt in a central urban location with Marker cones to create a slalom course.

This event format, with the same regulations and the layout of the route established in busy places, meets those objectives and hopefully hundreds of girls will feel inspired to come and try it during these karting slalom weekends. In addition to providing a kart experience, the events will also highlight road safety initiatives, open up the work of the FIA, our NHAs and motor sport in general to a new and younger audience, and potentially encourage women to become involved in any number of different areas.

2019: the "European Final of the Karting Challenge" and the "European pilot training camps

At the beginning of 2019, the three fastest girls of the events of each country (24 in total) will face each other in the European final (Le Mans, 7-10 March 2019) for the possibility of being among the six pilots selected. for the European team, who will attend the training camps of FIA pilots, where they will receive support through a sports and educational program.

During the autumn of 2019, the partners will organize the final event, report on the results of the project to the officials of the European institutions in Brussels and organize a spectacular demonstration of karting in which the European team selected during the project will participate.
