The First Division, commonly known as the League. Administered by the Professional Football League (LFP), LaLiga is disputed by 20 teams, with the last three positions, for the descent to the Second Division and replaced by the two best teams classified in that 2nd division plus the winner.

62 teams have competed in LaLiga since its inception. Nine teams have been crowned champions, with Real Madrid winning a record 33 times the league championship and Barcelona 25 times. Athletic Bilbao winning several titles in the first years of the league. Barcelona and Real Madrid dominated the championship in the 1950s, winning four league titles each over the course of the decade. Although Real Madrid has been prominent and has won 8 titles, La Liga has also seen other champions, such as Atlético de Madrid, Valencia and Deportivo de La Coruña.

The League has been the best league in Europe in the last five years and has led Europe for more years than any other country.

LaLiga is one of the most popular professional sports leagues in the world, with an average attendance of 26,983 for league games this past season. This is the sixth highest of any national professional sports league in the world and the third highest of any professional football association in the world, behind the Bundesliga and the Premier League.

Why do many football teams have sports car seats?
